So this past wednesday was the Premiere/ Awards party for a surf video called Innersection. They had a variety of surfers from various companies compiled into one video (which i believe was done by Taylor Steele). The event started with free Coronas and Clif bars. pretty sweet considering Coronas are usually around $6-7 a pop there!
Let me start at the beginning. We first met up with Will who is our good Australian friend (currently studying his Masters in Finance at 28 years old,great great guy with a HUGE beard) we met him at Bond Uni and then got into his car with another friend of our named Dash from Malibu, CA. We then headed to a friends place who is a photographer for the Quiksilver Pro (named Greg) whom my roommate Jarek had been acquianted with due to his somewhat of an internship for photography. His place was RIGHT on the beach from Snapper Rocks , where the Quiksilver Pro took place at. Had a few local beers there and waited for a few other of Greg's friends to arrive (all of whom travel the world shooting photos, pro wakeboard or something I only wish to be ha). Once they arrived, we took off to Komune Beach bar where we met up with friends of Greg's and pro surfer Claire Bevo! I remember seeing her firsthand on Fuel TV once and now was going to the same bar as her, tried keeping my cool though ha.
Once we entered the bar, we headed to receive our free drinks and a live performance from Ozzy Wrong and his band (Goons of Doom i believe). Eventually I saw many faces among the crowd of whom were Sal Masekela and Jordy Smith. Pretty crazy to be amongst a crowd of those names.
Walked around a bit and waited for the awards to unfold. They announced the name of the winner who was Matt Meola , winning a check of $100,000. They 100 GRAND! pretty lucky kid whose only around 19 yeras old. Later on, me Will and Dash all decided to go down to smoke some reefer and enjoy the waves at snapper rocks. we walked down there and passed the Quiksilver tent where they have the pro surfing event at. We came upon to a party which was secluded from anyone who didn't venture back there to find it. After meeting up with Jarek , we entered the tent where we continued to enjoy free Coronas and water.
After leaving there , we were going to stay at Greg's place but he was off getting lucky somewhere so we decided to take a taxi back. We ended up sharing it with an aussie girl who had nothing but interesting stories of how she wasn't that drunk and how often she doesn't drink and how she had to change diaperes full of poop all day the next day. Nice way to end the evening.
