Took my first trip to Byron Bay this past weekend where I stayed at the Aquarius hostel. pretty sweet place, was $33 a night but you also got a free dinner each night so that made it a pretty sweet deal. Arrived there friday after noon and went surfing for a bit, about 5 minutes into surfing i was stung by a jellyfish. fucking things are everywhere. If you look into the horizon at the main beach there, there is a rock called Julian Rocks. It was about a 5 minute boat ride out there. Me and Luke decided to go snorkeling out there for the day and it was alright except for the fact that it was kinda murky. Nonetheless we saw sea turtles, stingrays, all sorts of colorful fish, but little coral. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone going to Australia. Later that night we went to Cheeky Monkeys which is a pretty packed bar for byron bay. They had a competition there where girls would take their shirts off and paint their country's flag on their chests. They would then stand on stage as they were cheered on to see who won. Pretty crazy bar.
Oh and almost forgot about the Surf trip at Spot X that i went on the weekend before that. stayed their for 2 nights and 3 days where they taught us surfing and then we would eat food and drink beers around a campfire at night. Met the craziest guy ever named Tiago from Brazil who kept smoking us up and giving us beers. Real nice guy. finally learned to surf and stood up on a couple of waves . overall. great trip
